Meet Your Care Team

Although Friary Fields is not a nursing home, our own nursing backgrounds convinced us that, if we were to offer the best possible care, particularly to sufferers of Alzheimer’s, in our care home in Newark, our staff would be our most important investment.  That’s why we prefer to employ care staff who have trained as nurses, and we encourage all of our carers to study for NVQ qualifications.

Our commitment to ongoing training, and to fostering a family atmosphere, means that Friary Fields specialist dementia and Alzheimer’s residential care home enjoys an enviably low staff turnover.  This in turn means that our residents have the opportunity to build trusting relationships with their carers.

We review the skill mix and number of staff regularly to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our residents and can accommodate changes in those needs.

Currently, there are four carers on duty every day, with extra support during mealtimes, and three carers every night, and the management team is on call round the clock every day of the year, so we can cope calmly and comfortably with any eventuality.

We work closely with the local mental health team, social services, our residents’ own GPs and their relatives to offer joined-up care and support.

We also enjoy frequent visits from a host of ancillary services from hairdressers to chiropodists, each of whom has built a rapport with our residents and whose visits are keenly anticipated.
